I loved this book. It's one of the few times that I agree with people's love for a best seller. I liked how independent Katniss is and that she isn't a stereotypical female character. She doesn't need to be rescued and does the rescuing herself. She's not written as a superhuman robot though. She can't sometimes see what's right in front of her because she refuses to believe that people can be different from her first impression of them.

The Hunger Games is a reality show taken to a whole new level. It's a deadly futuristic version of a Survivor-like reality show where the contestants are cheered and fight like gladiators. Unlike some other YA books, this one doesn't skip the violent or action scenes. The problem that I sometimes have with YA books is that they're a bit childish. I don't mean this in a bad way and don't think that's something bad, just that they leave out many details. As someone who likes to read adult thrillers, it was good to find a YA book that didn't do that.

Este libro me gustó mucho. Es una de las pocas veces que coincido con la puntuación que le da la gente a un best seller. Me gustó que Katniss fuera muy independiente y que no se utilizaran estereotipos femeninos. No necesita que nadie la rescate y es ella quien rescata a la gente, pero no la escriben como un robot sobrehumano. A veces no ve lo que tiene delante, porque se niega a creer que la gente difiera de la primera impresión que le causaron.

Los Juegos del Hambre es un reality llevado al extremo. Es una versión futurista y mortal de algo parecido a Supervivientes donde los participantes luchan y se les aclama como a gladiadores. Al contrario que en otros libros juveniles, éste no pasa por encima las escenas violentas y de acción. El problema que tengo con los libros juveniles es que son a veces un poco infantiles. No de un modo negativo y no pienso que eso sea malo, sólo que omiten muchos detalles. Desde el punto de vista de alguien a quien le gusta leer thrillers para adultos, estuvo bien encontrar un libro juvenil que no hiciera eso.
